PROGRAM # 9172 12:00 PM PST

Vaccines for All?

President Biden announces the US will have vaccines for 300 million people by July and the injections will be expedited. Will people show up to get the doses into their arms? In this program, a vaccine analyst discusses common concerns that make people weary of the vaccine. Are the vaccines safe? Are they effective against the new variants? How long does immunity last? What’s the herd immunity threshold?

Guest: Arthur Allen, Editor, California Healthline, Kaiser Health News, Author of the book “Vaccine: The Controversial Story of Medicine’s Greatest Lifesaver,” Washington, DC.

Protecting the Most at Risk. Warning that Internet access, transportation and long wait times may discourage many to get care to protect themselves from Covid-19, a congress member from California is calling on federal authorities and state governors to set new guidance and find new ways to get the vaccine to frontline workers, including food and farm workers. Also, in California, the city of Coachella is considering “hero pay” of an additional $4 an hour for farmworkers and other essential workers, a first in the nation.

Guest: Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Coachella, Washington, DC (TBC); Steven Hernández, Mayor, Coachella, CA (TBC)

The Looming Threat of Eviction. Housing advocates say millions of people could be evicted from their homes despite President Biden’s order extending federal protections for renters. Because of loopholes in the executive order, the system is filled with traps for the average tenant, they warn.

Guest: National Housing Law Project.
