PROGRAM # 8869 12:00 PM PT

Latino Workers, Small Business: The Hardest Hit.

Latinos are the hardest hit by job losses and pay cuts due to coronavirus. At the same time, those who continue working in essential jobs are most exposed to coronavirus and yet are twice as likely to be uninsured and therefore less likely to be tested and treated for a potential infection. A leading public health researcher argues that there will soon be a surge of Covid-19 among essential workers, warning that if these millions continue uninsured, the system will be unprepared for the next pandemic. On other topic, warning that in the previous stimulus package large companies grabbed the lion’s share of loans, a leader of Latino businesses calls on businesses owned by Latinos and people of color not to fall behind and apply for PPP and disaster loans, especially from community banks.

Guests: Ramiro Cavazos, President and CEO, United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Washington, DC; Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, Founder and Director, Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture, School of Medicine, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA.
