Cracking Down on Wage Theft.
Stating that wage theft is an epidemic that pervades the economy, and Los Angeles is the wage theft capital of the country, state and local officials convene a town hall meeting in Los Angeles to drum up support for a pending bill in Sacramento known as “Fair Day’s Pay.” The bill, advancing in the legislature, would target deadbeat employers who won’t pay salaries they owe. A study on the health effects of wage theft and a motion to crackdown on wage theft in Los Angeles are also discussed.
Guests: Fabiola Santiago, Research Associate, Human Impact Partners, Oakland, CA; Elsa Castañeda, Plaintiff in a Wage Theft Case, Los Angeles, CA; Fabián Loera, President, Sunrise Co., Temecula, CA; Hilda Solís, Member, Board of Supervisors, Los Angeles County.
