PROGRAM # 9265 12:00 PM PDT

California’s New Relief Package.

California Gov. Newsom announced the biggest economic recovery package in the state’s history. The California Comeback Plan includes funds for immigrant communities, including $1,000 stimulus checks for undocumented families, health care Medi-Cal coverage for undocumented seniors older than 60, rental and utilities relief assistance, and help for immigrant and DACA students.

Guests: Ana Matosantos, Cabinet Secretary, Office of Governor Newsom, Sacramento, CA.

Preventing the New Public Health Crisis. Warning that the devastation of Covid-19 was made worse by decisions to slash public health funding, local health officials and advocates united around the “California Can’t Wait Coalition” are calling on Gov. Newsom to use money from the budget surplus to rebuild local public health infrastructure and workforce. If California fails to prepare, outbreaks of tuberculosis or chronic diseases like diabetes could escalate and become deadly, they say.

Guest: Elsa Mendoza Jiménez, Director, Monterey County Public Health Department, Monterey, CA.
