FRIDAY, AUGUST 5
PROGRAM # 9706 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
Berries, Mexico’s top agri-food export product, is rapidly replacing the traditional corn crops in the state of Jalisco, one of the largest berry producers. The state government touts the sudden development of the agroindustry. They call this project “Jalisco gigante agroindustrial.” Yet, local community leaders point to a number of long-lasting damages: deforestation, groundwater over pumping, and agrochemical contamination. On another topic, Colombia is on the eve of the inauguration of the Petro-Marquez presidency, a progressive ticket that promises to break with the conservative establishment and bring change. Will Colombia find lasting peace?
