TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5
PROGRAM # 9400 11:00 AM PDT
Extra Edition: Covid, Pneumonia, Hunger.
COVID-19 has disproportionately ravaged Latinos and communities of color. They have a higher risk of dying from Covid. This crisis will be exacerbated during the flu and pneumonia season. Some are warning that “when the US catches a cold, communities of color contract pneumonia.” A medical expert talks about how so many Latinos fall victims of complications of pneumonia and recently-approved vaccines that protect against more strains. On other news, advocates warn that the Covid pandemic has brought not only infections, hospitalizations and deaths on Latino families, but rising food insecurity, especially among undocumented Latino workers excluded from emergency relief. To help these families, they call on Congress to permanently extend the Child Tax Credit.
Guests: Dulce Gamboa, Senior Latino Engagement Associate, Bread for the World, Washington, DC; Dr. Yanira Cruz, President, Executive Director, National Hispanic Council for the Elderly – NHCOA, Washington, DC.
