Extra Edition: Scams of the Season.
Thousands of Latinos call each month the Anti-Fraud Helpline of a major advocacy organization to report potential scams. This year, advocates hear that scammers are using online shopping, shipping, gift cards, peer-to-peer applications, and charity names to steal money from Latino consumers. What should Latino consumers watch out for when shopping for gifts online? How can Latinos protect themselves this holiday shopping season?
Guest: Andrés Castillo, advisor and spokesperson, American Association for Retired Persons – AARP, New York, NY.
“The Humans Who Feed Us.”
As the country begins another season of food and celebration, an organization of migrant women launches takes the project “The Humans Who Feed Us” to a national level by partnering with chefs, restaurants and universities across the country. According to organizers, “the project humanizes workers throughout the food supply chain; it shows the interdependence between companies, the workers they employ and consumers; and fosters a sense of belonging for farmworkers in the places where they live and work.” The campaign includes portrait exhibitions displayed in places where food is served and sold in the United States, from restaurants to universities.
Guest: Laura Nadal, Community Organizer, Justice for Migrant Woman, Dayton, OH.
