New Trade Deal Starts.

The week after the USMCA new trade deal went into effect, official start of the new agreement, replacing NAFTA, Presidents Trump and AMLO meet in Washington to celebrate. The official start of the new agreement takes place in a business climate clouded by the pandemic. What does the new deal mean for workers, who now more ability to organize and bargain? What about the impact on US agriculture and on Mexican farmers? A reporter files news about the visit and experts delve into the details and repercussions of the agreement.

California Ballot. Most of California’s 14-member 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission were selected from a list of applicants and no Latinos are on this list. This initial group is now responsible for selecting the next six members of the commission. Advocates warn that Latinos are the only racial/ethnic group to be underrepresented in this process. On other news, in California, after action from the state legislature, two key measures will be on the state ballot in November: constitutional amendment ACA 5 would repeal California’s 24-year ban on affirmative action in public contracting, public employment and public education, and ACA 6, which would allow people on parole for felony convictions to vote in California after the have completed their state or federal prison terms.
