PROGRAM # 9207 12:00 PM PST
Federal Relief for Immigrant Families.
The American Rescue Plan is delivering life-saving relief to millions of working people and families around the country, including households with mixed immigration status who were left out of the first stimulus checks. Of special interest to low-income immigrant families are the one-year expansion of the Child Tax Credit for up to 3,600 dollars, the expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit for workers without children, and the stimulus checks for mixed-status families. A legal adviser explains the federal benefits and the state aid for immigrants included in California’s Golden State Stimulus package. A federal official also answers frequently asked questions about ITIN, the tax identification number used by those filing taxes without a social security number. This program also includes a field report on a door-to-door vaccination outreach effort in hard-to-reach rural neighborhoods in the San Joaquin Valley. This story is part of a series produced by the Central Valley News Collaborative.
Guests: Noe Páramo, Co-Director, Sustainable Rural Communities Project, California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, Modesto, CA; Irma Treviño, Communications and Liaison, Section 1, Internal Revenue Service, Harlingen, TX; Madi Bolaños, News Reporter, Valley Public Radio, Fresno, CA.
