Pan-Caribbean Sound in California.

A conversation with master percussionist and singer Gladys “Bobi” Céspedes, a Yoruba priestess and educator born in Cuba and based in San Francisco, and John Santos, a master percussionist, educator and one of the foremost promoters of Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz music in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was born and raised. They will headline the Sounds of California section of this year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC. The festival features artists who contribute to shape the soundscapes of California, bridging their homelands and their new lands and remixing traditions.
