One of the earliest pioneers of the Chicano movement, Reies López Tijerina passed at the age of 88 in El Paso. Founder of La Alianza Federal de Mercedes, Tijerina spearheaded the cause of land-grant restoration in the 60s. He gained international fame after leading an armed raid on a courthouse in Tierra Amarilla, NM to place a county prosecutor under citizen’s arrest. Former comrades-in-arms and scholars share memories and thoughts about the late firebrand.
