A conversation with scholar Alvaro Ochoa Serrano about his new book “La Música Va a Otra Parte: Mariache México-USA.” Dr. Ochoa tells the story of how, for more than two centuries, folk musicians from Western Mexico have carried their musical traditions to what is now California and the USA. He also features the remarkable story of migrant musicians from Michoacán who excelled in the US and gained international acclaim.
