Master Batá Drummer.

A conversation with AfroCuban drummer and Santero Felipe García Villamil, winner of NEA’s National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. Born in Cuba into a prominent family of singers, musicians and dancers of the Yoruba Lucumí religion or Santería, García Villamil is a master of a set of three sacred drums called batá and accomplished maker of ceremonial instruments.
