PROGRAM # 9735 12:00 PM PT
The Fight for a Historic Land Grant in Colorado.
A number of families who have lived for centuries in the state of Colorado have been waging a decades-long battle for the right to free access to the highlands in the Sangre de Cristo mountains where their grandparents and great-great-grandparents used to graze, hunt, fish and collect firewood communally since before that the United States was the United States. In 1997, when a judge was about to hold a hearing on the landmark case, we aired a conversation with two leaders of the legal fight against a wealthy timber tycoon. This archival program was originally aired on November 21, 1997.
Guests: Shirley Romero-Ortega, President, Land Grants Council, Grand Junction, CO; Roberto Maes, Attorney, Legal Representative of San Luis Families, Denver, CO; Adam Saytanides, Reporter, Denver, CO.
