Renowned Mexican singer and composer Gabino Palomares, a leading exponent of Latin America’s New Song movement from the 60s, recently toured the US. Of Otomí Indian parents, Palomares comments on pervasive ethnic discrimination and fascination with foreign powers in Mexico, common themes in his song’s lyrics. He also comments on the roots of his movement and the work of the new generation of activist musicians.
