Renowned Mexican-American poet Francisco X.Alarcon is battling cancer and his friends pay a tribute to him in San Francisco, CA. Alarcón is known for a number of collections of poetry, including Tattoos, and Snake Poems: An Aztec invocation, as well as bilingual poetry books for children. A close friend talks about the artwork and health challenges of the poet.

Also, Come Bien! Eat Right! Singer and composer José Luis Orozco was nominated to a Grammy Award in the Best Children Album category for his record “Eat Right!”, which promotes healthy foods and nutrition, and bilingualism. The album was produced in partnership with the Smithsonian Folkways label.

Also, New Healthy Eating Guidelines. New federal guidelines on healthy eating encourage people to cut back on sugar and boys and men to consume less proteins. The guidelines don’t include limits on red meat, processed meat or dietary cholesterol. A health care advocate welcomes, but points to weaknesses in the guidelines.
