Flaco Jiménez.
A conversation with conjunto accordion master Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez, who for seven decades has interpreted traditional tejano tunes and, performing with legends like Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, has taken Mexican border music to larger, rock and country audiences all over the world. Flaco’s father and grandfather are recognized as pioneers of conjunto music. Flaco was awarded NEA’s National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honor in the nation for folk and traditional arts, and this year’s Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the top recognition in the music industry.
