THURSDAY, MAY 10
PROGRAM # 8326 12:00 PM PT
Tejano Conjunto Festival.
Every Spring, for the past 37 years, some of the most popular Conjunto bands gather in San Antonio for a week-long celebration of the accordion-driven musical traditions of the Texas/Mexico border region. In this year’s edition next week, legendary accordionists Eva Ybarra and Flaco Jimenez, along with Los Texmaniacs and The Hometown Boys, will headline the festival. Among the new inductees to the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame is Radio Bilingüe’s very own Alma Garza, a popular on-air personality born in the Rio Grande Valley who for thirty years promoted the best of Tejano music over the public broadcasting airwaves. This program features conversations with the leader of the festival and with a musician and accordion designer who has impacted the signature sound of famous accordion masters and the phenomenon of the resurgence of the Conjunto button accordion.
Guests: Cristina Ballí, Executive Director, Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center/Tejano Conjunto Festival, San Antonio, TX; Gilberto Reyes, Accordion Product Manager, Hohner USA Accordions, Nashville, TN.
