PROGRAM # 9952 12:00 PM PT
The Debate Over Cesar Chavez Boulevard.
After first proposed thirty years ago, Latino groups are renewing efforts to rename a major city road in honor of farmworker and civil rights champion Cesar Chavez in Fresno, the nation’s agricultural capital. While Latino residents welcome the idea, since the street crosses the heart of the Barrio in a city that was the scene of historic Chicano farm worker fights, local African American and White leaders are pushing back. Is there room for a win-win deal?
