Extra Edition: 100 Years of Vargas de Tecalitlán. A Repeat.
In 1997, legendary Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán was preparing to celebrate with a tour around the world 100 years since its founding by Don Gaspar Vargas. Radio Bilingüe celebrated this centennial headlining Vargas in its XIV edition of the Viva el Mariachi! Festival in Fresno. This program, aired on March 12 of that year, includes riveting conversations with two iconic figures: Ruben Fuentes, the ensemble’s artistic director since 1950, and Pepe Martinez, who took over the musical leadership in 1975.
