“Songs of Struggle and Hope.”

Agustín Lira, a pioneering singer of the Chicano movement, releases this week a new album under the Smithsonian Folkways label. Lira, a cofounder of El Teatro Campesino in 1965, has sung to struggles for social justice for the past half century. Lira and his long-time collaborator Patricia Wells Solórzano recorded selected songs for the new album, “Songs of Struggle and Hope.” This program is part of our “Sounds of California” series.
