Living with Air Pollution. A quarter of people in the US live with polluted air, with people of color being the hardest hit, according to a new report. Fueled by extreme weather events and the climate crisis, California has the areas with the worst air quality. A representative from the American Lung Association discusses the report.

Renewing Truck Fleet in California. The California air authority is about to pass a groundbreaking regulation to reduce pollution from commercial trucks, vans and buses. This decision is expected to speed up the clean up of diesel pollution and the transformation of the state’s freight system. Analysts also discuss the rapid transformation of California’s fleet of cars and the EPA’s new proposed rules on car pollution.

High Office on Environmental Justice. President Biden announced the creation of a White House office of environmental justice, directing all government agencies to develop plans to address the impact of pollution and climate change on communities of color. Biden is instructing federal agencies to ensure “cleaner air and water and better access to green space, safe and affordable housing, and clean transportation” for communities of color.

California flood victims are invited to talk about their efforts to access emergency relief and emergency aid officials dispel false rumors and comment on the latest news, including tax relief for victims of the winter storms and the threat of more flooding as the record snow in the Sierra Nevada starts to melt.

Air Pollution Hotspot. The San Joaquin Valley continues being a hotspot for air pollution. A new report ranks the valley as the most polluted air basin for particle pollution in the nation. In response, a local air quality agency will be distributing in-home air purifiers for residents in disadvantaged communities who are exposed to air pollution from pesticides, dust and smoke. A news reporter brings details about the study and a local official talks about relief measures.

As Republicans in the House discuss legislation to tighten law enforcement, mandate detentions and raise penalties at the US-Mexico border, House Democrats urge the Biden administration to prepare to process the expected increase in border crossings after Title 42 is terminated. Meanwhile, a Democratic US Senator released a new plan outlining key policies to manage migration, including more resources to process asylum and better humanitarian assistance. Analysts also comment on state bills in Texas to boost Operation Lone Star and increase the state’s intervention in immigration enforcement operations.

Also, the US Supreme Court is about to decide whether women can have access to the abortion pill Mifepristone while a legal challenge goes on.

Gun Reforms in Colorado. An assault weapons bill was rejected by state legislators in Colorado while four other gun control bills await the signature of Gov. Jared Polis. According to observers, gun violence in the state recently hit a 40-year high. This is an update on gun reform efforts in this Western state.

After the Fresno City Council overwhelmingly approved a plan to change the name of a road in South Fresno to César Chávez Boulevard, the conservative board of supervisors of Fresno county opposed it, blocking the name change in stretches controlled by the county.

Latina Farmer. Also, a news reporter features a small Latina farmer who has gained a worldwide audience by sharing on Tik Tok stories about her farm stand, including the challenges faced in times of drought and flood disasters.
