Internal disputes among Senate Republicans forced leaders to postpone the vote on their healthcare proposal until after the July 4th recess. Moderate Republicans believe that the proposal would jeopardize care for the neediest citizens, such as the elderly, women and children who rely on Medicaid. Meanwhile, more radical GOP members think cuts to these programs do not go far enough. The delayed vote provides an opportunity for a coalition of Latino groups and Democratic senators to join forces to attempt to halt what they are denouncing as toxic medicine for families.
