California Workers Celebrate Historic Wage Theft Law

After more than five years of protests and visits to the state capitol, California’s Governor Brown signed a new law that adds protections against wage theft. Despite already existing laws that punish the crime, employers in the state are estimated to steal more than 1,200 million dollars every year from workers, by not paying them minimum wage, overtime, or obligatory breaks. Workers and community leaders celebrated the triumph alongside State Senate President Kevin De León, in Los Angeles, named the country’s capital of wage theft. Rubén Tapia reports.
