Contracting COVID-19 after being vaccinated against the virus is not common, but it does happen. While the vaccine guards against disease, it does not necessarily protect against infection. That is why scientists are counting on rapid mass vaccination to win the race against new outbreaks and overcome the pandemic. Our correspondent in New York, Marco Vinicio González, shares his personal experience of how his family weathered the crisis that arose when his wife, who was fully vaccinated, suddenly got the virus.
