After the federal government’s failure to prohibit the use of the insecticide known as chlorpyrifos, environmental groups and leaders of affected communities in California are pressuring the state to declare a ban. Chlorpyrifos is a widely-used pesticide that has been associated with severe nervous system damage in young children and pregnant women.
