Los Angeles schools, like many others in the country, cut their art and music programs in recent years. In response, some parents joined up with a teacher from Mexico to create their own music classes for their children. Together, they founded a rondalla, a musical group that has its origins in medieval Spain and which flourished in Mexico in the 1960’s. The group, Rondalla Sueño Romántico, is made up of young people between 12 and 20 years old. The musical group was symbolically sponsored by the famous group Rondalla Del Amor de Saltillo during its first concert at a church in Santa Monica, California. Our correspondent Rubén Tapia reports. This feature story is part of our series, Raices, Los Maestros: Artists who are passing on their art to the next generation.
