Almost three decades ago, immigrants brought the Guelaguetza, a celebration of the indigenous cultures of the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, to California. This year in Los Angeles, thousands of Oaxacans and Angelinos celebrated in an outdoor park. During two days, people enjoyed banda music, traditional indigenous dance, and delicious Oaxacan mole. A large number of the musicians and dancers were young Angelinos, the children or grandchildren of immigrants from Oaxaca, who report feeling proud of the land of their parents, without forgetting they are also American, or as they say, OaxaCalifornian. Our correspondent in Los Angeles, Rubén Tapia, takes us to the festivities.
