Amid intense public outcry both nationally and internationally, President Trump reversed his policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the border. His new executive order remains controversial, as it maintains the “zero tolerance” policy and orders children to be detained with their parents, while also leaving in limbo more than 2,300 minors already imprisoned. Meanwhile, attempts to pass two Republican bills on immigration have failed. The initiatives sought to respond to the crisis of the Dreamers and separated children while giving the green light to the wall and dealing a blow to the current system of legal, family-reunifying immigration. José López Zamorano reports from Washington.
