Lawmakers Optimistic about Police Reform Bill

On the first anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, an African American man shot by police officers in Minneapolis, lawmakers in Washington are moving toward police reform in his name. Bipartisan lawmakers preparing the bill have expressed confidence in a forthcoming agreement. Independent organizations share the optimism but insist that more urgent and profound changes are needed to curb police violence against people of color.
