Andean Music Keeps Migrants Together

One of the oldest cultural expressions from the American continent is the music of the first peoples of the Andes: the Aymaras and Quechuas, ancient cultures that have passed on throughout the generations their rich oral traditions and ways of seeing the world, seeking to live in harmony with the planet. In San Francisco, California, a group of migrants from the Andean region meets to play this music, learn the dances that go with it, make instruments and traditional clothing, and give tribute to Mother Earth, or Pachamama, in Quecha language. Fernando Andrés Torres reports from San Francisco. This feature report is part of our series Raíces: Stories About Grassroots Artists.
