On the occasion of 4th of July celebrations, organizations, legislators and activists are stepping up a campaign to naturalize more than one million Latinos in time for the presidential elections next year. Although citizenship campaigns are not new, President Trump’s threat of massive raids and deportations have given a renewed sense of urgency to legal residents who view naturalization as a way to protect themselves against deportation.
