Muslim leaders in Southern California decided to break their fast during Ramadan, the holy month of Islam, with a feast of Mexican tacos in an effort to forge bonds between Muslims and Latinos. A Muslim activist and a Latino professor created the campaign inviting taco trucks to set up at mosques in the area in a bid to dampen prejudice and fear after some warned that too much immigration would lead to a “taco truck on every corner.” Thus, in recent days, thousands of Muslims broke their daily fast by eating halal tacos. Manuel Ocaño reports from a mosque in San Diego.
