Texas Latina Candidate Set to Make History in November

In Texas, state Senator Sylvia Garcia recently resigned from her position because in November, along with former judge Verónica Escobar, she will seek to be the first Latina to represent the conservative state in the House of Representatives. García’s resignation opens the door to allow another Latina to fill the vacancy in a special election. Analysts indicate that this unusual electoral scenario could motivate Latinos to vote in unprecedented numbers in November, since very few generally go to the polls during midterm elections.
