Voters to Decide on “Panic Button” to Protect Hotel Housekeepers

Voters in two coastal cities in southern California may vote in November on a municipal ballot initiative that would equip hotel housekeepers with “panic buttons” they can press to receive emergency help when harassed or assaulted by customers or employees. Hotel industry executives and chambers of commerce have expressed opposition to the measure. Ruben Tapia spoke with two veteran housekeepers who reported having suffered sexual harassment at work.
