LGBTQ activists from across the country are gathering in San Francisco to discuss the challenges faced by this historically highly stigmatized community. Despite some successes, they currently face a national wave of anti-LGBTQ legislation in conservative states, as well as an increase in hate crimes and discrimination. Organizer Mayra Hidalgo Salazar spoke with Chelis López about these challenges and how activists are preparing overcome them. This is a summary of their conversation.
