Hit by the Pandemic, Guatemalan Mayas Criticize their Abandonment by Government

Guatemala has the lowest rates of COVID-19 vaccination in Latin America, and the Delta variant is hitting hardest the rural indigenous Mayan population. Health officials in the United States placed the impoverished country in Code Red, warning citizens not to visit. To search for answers, María Martin recently visited Santiago Atitlán, an indigenous population on the shores of Lake Atitlán, in western Guatemala. She brings us this report.
