While California is a state with high levels of vaccination, its rural areas lag so far behind that are now being called “vaccination deserts.” Low vaccination levels worry authorities as the dangerous Delta variant of Covid has become the dominant strain. To find out why so few people have been vaccinated, Madi Bolaños, a reporter for public radio KVPR and the Central Valley News Collaborative, traveled to Tipton, a farming town in southern Tulare County.
