Unaccompanied Minors from Mexico Deported Immediately – Though public attention on children detained at the border has centered around those who migrate from Central America, a large part of those who cross alone are from Mexico. Many of these minors are also fleeing violence and abuse, but even so, the majority of Mexican children are deported immediately, without legal defense or the opportunity to argue their case in immigration court. Clara Roig Medina visited an author who writes books in Spanish for children, and a well-known bilingual musician in the San Francisco Bay Area, to understand better how children’s music and books can encourage a love for language and bilingualism.
