Biden’s Infrastructure Plan Advances Haltingly – President Biden has announced a bipartisan agreement on a limited-scope infrastructure plan. In response, progressive Democrats are asking for guarantees that Democrats pass investments in Medicare, child care, college access and immigration reform with a simple majority. Biden said that he will not sign either of the two infrastructure projects if he does not receive them together. José López Zamorano brings us the details from Washington.

Federal Lawsuit Energizes Voters’ Rights Advocates in Georgia – Voters’ rights groups welcomed the news that the US Department of Justice is suing the state of Georgia for imposing restrictions on voters of color. They say the federal lawsuit reinforces local challenges filed for similar reasons more than two months ago when Republicans approved the restrictive law. Yemille Castejón reports from Atlanta.

Immigrants Over Age 50 to Gain Health Insurance in California – In a historic step, California will offer public health insurance to undocumented immigrants over age 50 as part of the new budget agreed between the state legislature and Governor Gavin Newsom. Coverage was already extended to immigrants up to age 25. This large social investment was made possible by the efforts of Latino legislators and community coalitions and the historic fiscal surplus enjoyed by the state treasury.
