Medicaid for Foster Youth – Thousands of young adults who lived in foster homes as children can receive Medicaid until they turn 26, as established by President Obama’s health reform. But few of these youth know about the program. Community organizations and agencies around the country are intensifying their information campaigns to reach more former foster youth. Rubén Tapia reports from Los Angeles, California, the state where there are the most youth who used to live in foster homes.
Andean Music Keeps Migrants Together – One of the oldest cultural expressions from the American continent is the music of the first peoples of the Andes: the Aymaras and Quechuas, ancient cultures that have passed on throughout the generations their rich oral traditions and ways of seeing the world, seeking to live in harmony with the planet. In San Francisco, California, a group of migrants from the Andean region meets to play this music, learn the dances that go with it, make instruments and traditional clothing, and give tribute to Mother Earth, or Pachamama, in Quecha language.
