Young Immigrants Elated over Passage of DREAM Act – A group of Dreamers and TPS beneficiaries expressed elation over House approval of the Dream and Promise Act promoted by Democratic California legislator Lucille Roybal-Allard. All House Democrats and seven Republicans voted in favor of the measure to legalize more than 2 million young Dreamers and other migrants with temporary protected status. Although the young activists do not expect the legislation to succeed in the Republican-controlled Senate, they remain hopeful over this first historic step in favor of migrants after years of legislative inaction, according to Dreamer Rosa Barrientos, who spoke with Samuel Orozco on the program Línea Abierta shortly before the historic vote.

Trump Threatens to Impose Tariffs on Mexico – President Trump threatened to impose a five percent tariff on Mexican exports unless that country halts the flow of Central American migrants into the United States. The measure was rejected by Republican lawmakers opposed to linking trade and immigration, while experts agree that the tariffs would ultimately be paid for by American consumers. Senior officials from the two countries are holding closed-door negotiations in search of a last-minute agreement. Jose Lopez Zamorano brings us the details from Washington.

Presidential Candidates Committed to Immigration Reform – After California moved up the date of its primaries, Democratic presidential candidates have rushed to campaign in the state. Last weekend, during a forum in Pasadena in the Los Angeles area, four candidates committed to prioritizing immigration reform in the first 100 days of their government and vowed to protect young Dreamers and TPS beneficiaries through executive orders. In the forum, organized by pro-immigrant groups, candidates spoke with those directly affected. Ruben Tapia reports from Pasadena.
