Sheriff Questioned About Links with Immigration Agents – This week’s regular session of the Fresno county government was the scene of a unique public forum on immigration. This is the second such forum to be held since the passage of California’s TRUTH Act (short for Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds), which requires local governments with links to federal immigration agents hold periodic community meetings. Dozens of local residents showed up to voice complaints and questions to the meeting’s central figure, Sheriff Margaret Mims. Afterward, some said they left with more questions than answers. Masters of Border Music Inducted into Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame – Each year, the traditional Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio brings together hundreds of musicians and fans of the popular accordion music from the Texas-Mexico border area. Each year, to recognize the best performers, the festival and its sponsor, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, induct figures to the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame. This year, two veteran maestros were inducted: the legendary accordionist Felipe Pérez of Corpus Christi, the group Felipe Pérez y sus Polkeros, and the renowned singer-songwriter Samuel Ramos of the Rio Grande valley.
