Puerto Rico Reconstruction Delayed – Thousands of victims of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico continue to live in very precarious conditions, lacking electricity and facing difficulties reaching clinics and schools. However, there is still no clear assessment of the needs and resources available for reconstruction. A group of mayors from the island visited Washington recently to present their proposals to legislators from both parties. José López Zamorano reports.

Two Texas Latinas to Make History in Congress – Two Latina candidates who won the Democratic nomination in this week’s primary in Texas are virtually assured of their election in November, becoming the first Latinas in history to represent the state in Congress. The women are former judge Veronica Escobar of El Paso and state Senator Sylvia Garcia of Houston. San Antonio-based political analyst Lydia Camarillo speaks to Radio Bilingüe’s Samuel Orozco about this unprecedented event and the redoubled efforts and anger seen among Democrats due to the “Trump effect.”

Mexican Mayor Known as “the Trump of Oaxaca” – A city mayor in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca was elected to the post after campaigning with promises to rid his town of Central American migrants and criminality. This earned him the moniker “the Trump of Oaxaca.” Our reporter Levi Bridges spoke with people in the town of Chahuites and has this news.
