California Could Offer Healthcare to Undocumented Youth up to Age 26. – California’s legislature is considering a bill that would expand the law allowing undocumented children access to health insurance through the public program known as Medi-Cal to include young people up to age 26. Two important legislative committees have signed off on the bill, proposing that funding should come from new tobacco taxes. The big unknown is Governor Brown, who will decide on the issue in a matter of days. Rubén Tapia reports from Los Angeles.

Texans Angered by the Killing of Young Latino by Sheriff’s Deputy’s Husband.– The death in Houston of a young Latino who was brutally strangled by the husband of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy has unleashed a wave of public outcry. The officer and her husband forcibly restrained the young man, John Hernández, after they saw him urinate in the parking lot of a restaurant. Videos of the incident show how the couple continued to use lethal force against Hernández despite the victim’s cries and witnesses who begged them to stop. Atziri Ávila has the details from Houston.

Despite Dangers, Mexican Mothers Exhume and Search for Disappeared Children. – Faced with the indifference of Mexican authorities, a group of mothers known as “The Searchers” (Las Buscadoras) have united to form search teams to locate the remains of their loved ones, who were the victims of forced disappearance in the northern state of Sinaloa. With nothing but shovels and sticks, the group has been able to find numerous hidden graves and some 90 bodies of the more than 400 that have been listed as disappeared in the region. Two members of the group brought their painful testimony to the United States. Guadalupe Grajeda and Berthila Beltrán spoke with Samuel Orozco.
