Now that the national convention is over, the Democrats now have to heal the deep division with the millions who followed Bernie Sanders, restore the credibility of the party, and reach out to those white voters who favor Republican candidate Donald Trump. Prospects for Latinos – Former housing secretary and veteran Democratic Party leader Henry Cisneros comments that it was about time that a major party nominated a woman as a presidential candidate and discusses the historic symbolism. In an interview with Radio Bilingüe’s Samuel Orozco, Cisneros also talks about the prospects for getting more Latinos into the administration and even the vice-presidency.
Rhythms and Voices of a New California – This summer on the National Mall in the nation’s capital, as part of the traditional Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the sounds of the migrants and communities that give California its soundscape. The Grammy-award-winning band Quetzal, of Los Angeles, collaborated with the acclaimed Ethiopian singer Meklit Hadero, based in San Francisco, who mixes hip-hop and rock with traditional music from East Africa, to create a unique sound: of the new California.
