California Mothers Call for More Pesticide Restrictions – Children who live and work near agricultural fields in California have a much higher risk than others of getting cancer, autism, or neurological illnesses because of their higher exposure to dangerous pesticides. That’s according to a new study, which also revealed that, at least two years ago, the fields in Fresno and Kern counties were sprayed with the largest amount of pesticides. Our reporter Rubén Tapia spoke with mothers from both counties who are calling for more restrictions on the use of pesticides in the state.

Puerto Rican Sea Turtle Advocate Wins Prestigious Environmental Prize – A Puerto Rican environmentalist who fought to create a natural reserve to protect the endangered leatherback sea turtle, won the prestigious Goldman Prize, considered the Green Nobel. Two decades ago, influential investors planned to build huge tourist complexes, golf courses, malls, and luxurious homes on coastal properties in Puerto Rico, putting coral reefs, mangrove swamps, leatherback turtles and other species in danger. Radio Bilingüe’s news director Samuel Orozco spoke with the award-winner, Luis Jorge Rivera Herrera, who helped lead the struggle to protect a natural corridor.
