Highlights from the Democrats’ Debate – This week the Democrats vying to be presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley, debated for the second time. The debate, held in Des Moines, Iowa, started with questions about the attacks in Paris, and included heated exchanges about the influence of Wall Street in politics. Here’s the report, with Marco Vinicio González.´
Why Become A Citizen? – Have you become a citizen yet? Hundreds of thousands of Latinos in the U.S. cannot vote because they are not yet citizens, even though they are eligible to naturalize. A year before the 2016 elections, a group of civil organizations in Los Angeles is trying to get more permanent residents to take this important step. Our correspondent Rubén Tapia found a couple that resisted becoming U.S. citizens for a long time, but has now finally decided to do so.

Latino Farmer Recognized for Extraordinary Protection of Environment – The formerly green, productive West Fresno County in California’s San Joaquin Valley is now becoming a land of vacant lots and dustclouds because of the lack of water. In addition to the impact of the drought, the dry land has been devastated by the intense use of fertilizers, chemical pesticides, and tractors. But now, a Latino farmer in the region won a presidential Champion of Change award for Sustainable and Climate-Smart Agriculture  because of completely changing the way he works the land, using less water, less diesel and less tilling. How did he do it, and what were the outcomes? This is a segment of a conversation that Radio Bilingüe’s news director, Samuel Orozco, had with Jesús Sánchez, farm manager of Sano Farms in Firebaugh, CA.
