Radio Bilingüe’s News Correspondent Winner of Golden Mike Award

Radio Bilingüe’s news reporter, Mariana Pineda, won a Golden Mike Award for “Best News Reporting” on the radio category during the 69th Annual Golden Mike Awards gala dinner of non-profit Radio and Television News Association from Southern California on Saturday.

Pineda won what’s considered the most coveted broadcast journalism prize for Southern California for her story titled: “One Year After Hurricane Harvey, Latino Families are Still Recovering on their Own.”

The story, aired in September on Radio Bilingüe’s weekly news service Edición Semanaria, tells a story of loss, resiliency, and survival among Houston’s immigrant families in the face of the devastation of the combined scourge of Hurricane Harvey and the toxic contamination that ensued, and the lack of access to emergency aid and recovery funds.

The award was presented to Mariana Pineda at the 69th Annual Golden Mike Awards gala dinner held Saturday, January 19th, in Hollywood.

Edición Semanaria is a 14-minute Spanish-language news service that broadcasts and originates from Radio Bilingüe’s flagship station in Fresno and is carried by stations affiliated to the national public radio system. The news service has been on the air for more than 25 years.
