RE: Repeat of forum “Latinos and the College Dream”
DT: August 29, 2014
Radio Bilingüe will repeat next week two hours of the community forum on Latino access to higher education aired live from Texas. The program, titled “Latinos and the College Dream,” will air on Wednesday, September 3rd, from 5 PM to 7 PM PDT over the Radio Bilingüe satellite network.
Hosted by public radio veteran journalist Richard Gonzales, the two-hour segment in English brings the story of a 99-per-cent Latino school district that, after being plagued with low academic achievement and high dropout rates, has now turned around and become an incubator of graduates. Panelists also tackle the challenges that skyrocketing college costs and the student debt pose to working-class Latino families.
The community forum was originally broadcast live from the University of Texas – Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, and it included participation from education leaders from the South Texas College community. It was produced in collaboration with public stations KXJT in Rio Grande City and KMBH in Harlingen, TX.
The audio files of “Latinos and the College Dream” are also available free-of-charge on Radio Bilingüe’s online archives at www.radiobilingue.org, and on the web platform of PRX.
This program offering is part of RB’s series Diploma en Mano/Diploma in Hand, supported by The Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s initiative American Graduate – Let’s Make it Happen!
